Our Source Materials
Our mission to create products that support bio-diversity and local ecologies wouldn't be complete without choosing materials that are safe for humans and animals while also offering the least possible environmental impact. That's why the main components of our Eggologic garden pods are made entirely from 100% recycled HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) resin from certified providers.
HDPE is a "type 2" plastic commonly used in everyday items such as containers for milk, detergents and health products. It is one of the few plastic types considered food safe, and offers the greatest environmental friendliness. We use recycled HDPE for these key reasons:
- HDPE has an extremely high strength-to-density ratio, which means it offers incredibly good durability and weather resistance in a light material
- HDPE withstands both high heat and freezing without compromising strength
- HDPE does not emit ANY harmful chemicals into the environment
- HDPE is free of BPA, phthalates, heavy metals, and allergens
- HDPE is highly mold resistant, which is critically important when it comes nesting enclosures for both birds and insects.
- As a type 2 plastic, HDPE can be recycled up to 10 times without compromising its strength or environmental friendliness
Our Nester Pod insert and Hive Pod tubes are made of 100% recyclable cellulose (paper) pulp.
Our Nester Pod entry guards and assembly screws are made of stainless steel.
